**Special Announcement**

The Hanging Basket House Is Now Open!

We know many of you have been anxiously awaiting this day. Especially from all the phone calls! You don't have to wait any more. Our first basket house is now open in the Annuals area behind retail.

We will be stocking up the houses with Begonias, Fuchcias, Mixed Baskets, Bacopa and more all season long.


The Perennial Manager Says...

Don't just look up for rainbows! Our perennial shade house is displaying a spectacular color from all Heucheras now in stock.

And if you really want an eye-popping experience, don't forget to stop by our Rhododendron house.

If you are familiar with Rhody's and Azaleas then you can appreciate the bold color they produce. And it isn't just the showy flowers by themselves.

It is the foliage and flowers together that make them an excellent plant for any garden or yard.

Take the short drive out to Johnson Brothers and experience the color for yourself.

Our sun Perennial groundcover tables are SPREADING! Many are now in full bloom including:

  • Iberis sempervirens (Candytuft)
  • Erodium
  • Lithodora
  • Veronica
  • Armeria
  • Silene
  • Creeping Phlox
  • Potentilla

That is to just name a few! The bees are all a buzz, and so are our Perennial staff! They are stocking the floor daily with sun flowering beauties such as:

  • Iceland Poppies
  • Erysimum (Wallflower)
  • Euphorbia (Spurge)
  • pulsatilla (Pasqueflower)

Also don't forget those shady spots with gorgeous blooming...
  • Trollius (Globeflower)
  • Brunnera (Siberian Bugloss)
  • Polemonium (Jacob's Ladder)
  • Galium (Sweet Woodruff)
Again, these are just a small taste of the hundreds of varieties on display.

Popular in season plants that are now starting to flower include:
  • Columbine (Aquilegia)
  • Bitterroot (Lewisia)
  • Iris
  • Bleeding Heart (Dicentra)-including a NEW variety 'King of Hearts' that has gray fern-leaf foliage.

Preventatives in the Garden


Slugs are starting to make their appearance in the garden, especially around newly emerging hostas.

Applications of pet friendly Sluggo should be applied to around base of plants including vegetables, fruits, berries, outdoor ornamentals, and lawns if needed.

Cut and remove weeds from the garden to prevent plant disease.

Fun Garden Ideas

Keep a garden journal of whats blooming and when in your garden.

Some varieties you see in your garden or out at the nursery that are your favorites.  Or maybe even times when you notice that there isn't very much color in the garden so you can look for specific bloom time plants!

The Tree & Shrub Manager Says...

Its not the smell of spring in the air..it's Wisteria and Clematis! As you enter our vine house you'll be overwhelmed with scent and the sight of prolific blooming vines.

We're moving on up....the Tree and Shrub Department that is. No more long walks to the back of Johnson Brother's for trees, shrubs, roses, or vines.

Now its just a leisurely stroll behind the vegetable house to choose from our large selection including a currently great assortment of Japanese Maples, Cherry Trees and Pieris shrubs, all with varying heights, colors, and forms!

  • Plants in season and in bloom include azaleas, rhododendrons, and flowering currants!
  • Its time to apply fertilizer to roses and lawns.
  • Current problems to care for include controling annual bluegrass in lawns, and keep an eye out for Aphids on roses and flowering plants which can be controlled with Triple Action Plus.

Our JAPANESE and WILDLIFE GARDENS are NOW OPEN, and ready for you to enjoy whether its a simple stress free stroll through or a buying extravaganza as they are continuosly stocked with items featured within the gardens!

Summer blooming bulbs are in stock and ready to go in the ground. Hundreds to choose from including:

Now is the time to be checking the soil temperature in your garden beds. We have soil testers and thermometers.

Testing the soil temperature is essential for seeds because planting them into soil that is cooler than desired yields a poor crop or plant.

Heirloom seeds has an excellent worksheet on what the optimum soil temperature should be for germination.

Pots are filling up - Literally!

We now offer free plant potting. Choose from one or more of our gorgeous selection of pots and pick your favorite plants, and YES we'll pot it up for you. No need to get dirty!

Also our pot selection in now filling up with new items daily.

Other Helpful Tips

Go vertical with Heavy Duty multi-colored (brights or nuetrals) tomato cages in circular and square, and in varying heights!

JUST IN...colored 1/2 barrels for your urban gardening. These make a great colorful addition to your container gardens, but still looks NATURAL!

Also try out our NEW Topsy Turvey planters that allow you to grow UPSIDE-DOWN! Great for those with limited space who love cherry tomatoes, strawberries, herbs, or simply want some great summer color!


Preventatives To Be Taken

We have BENEFICIAL INSECTS! Release bugs such as ladybugs, mantids, or nematodes to help your plants stay healthy.

Beneficials and their offspring heal plants by devouring Aphids, Spidermites, Scales and Thrips, all without harm to your soil, pets, family, or our fragile ecosystem.
