Garden News From The Professionals At
Johnson Brothers Greenhouses...

Happy New Year, Gardeners! We've spent the last couple weeks enjoying the holidays with our friends and family, as well as gearing up for a new year out at the nursery.

We reopen this Saturday, January 21st at 9am.

Weve got some exciting ideas for a new store layout and a greater variety of plants to tempt you with. We've already started growing thousands of our famous hanging baskets, as well as perennials, herbs and annual bedding plants.

It's too cold for you to preview those now, but rest assured they are on their way to becoming the healthy, full plants you've come to expect from us.

What can you get out here now? Keep reading for some winter gardening inspiration!

Store hours: Monday-Saturday, 9am to 5pm and Sundays 11am to 5pm

Annuals...

Primroses are the first color of the season with a wide range of purple, yellow, red, pink, and whites. These plants are shade loving and do best in moist soil.

Pansies in rainbow of colors are now here and big, beautiful Ranunculus are coming soon!

We recommend the use of Pet-Safe Sluggo or Rainproof Deadline for slug bait. Treat now for fewer slugs this spring.

Seeds & Bulbs...

Botanical Interests® High Quality Seed. This company is family owned and based out of Colorado.

Horticulture magazine describes the beautiful and informative seed packets as "mini-encyclopedias". They feature recipes, historical information and even the occasional piece of poetry.

Save on shipping: we offer most of their line if you want to check out their website for selections. If we don't have it, we'll try to get it for you - just ask!

Territorial Seed Company® has been providing seeds and informative catalogs to "grow vegetables west of the Cascades" from their site in Cottage Grove, Oregon since 1985.

Well known for quality and locally productive varieties, we carry a large selection of their products as well. Again, if we don't have it, we'll try to get it for you - just ask!

Last, but not least, Livingston Seed has been in business since 1850 and is based in Ohio. We carry this line of proven varieties for the overall value of their in "Plus Packs".

Available in both Flowers and Vegetables, you can typically pay less for more seed (by volume). The clear window packaging also offers a view of what you actually buying-you see what you get!

  • Mark your calendars! We've got a free seed starting/greenhouse growing class with Vern Johnson scheduled for March 10th and 1:00pm.

Perennials & Herbs...

It may be January, but here in the Perennial Department we have some beautiful blooming Helleborus. They're absolutely delightful this time of year when things have become a bit gray and dreary outside, and the Helleborus pop out with their cheery upright blossoms.

Check out our Website for some great coupons for our Helleborus and colorful, evergreen Heucheras.

These are sure to chase the winter blues away! Combine them with some Evergreen Ferns and you'll have a great looking winter container or corner in your garden.

  • Forsythia
  • Flowering Quince
  • Witch Hazel
