Great perennial ferns that tolerate sun or shade...
The western sword fern (Polystichum munitum) is one of the few garden plants that performs well in full sun or full shade.
It is an evergreen native to the Pacific Northwest.
Western sword ferns can be used with other perennials, mixed in with annuals and even placed under a cover of trees.
The options for this filler plant are endless due to its versatility to survive in most environments.
And depending on where it is planted, it may grow from 18 inches up to 4 feet tall and wide!
When planting your ferns we recommend a root stimulator to assist the plant in early root formation and stronger root development.
Root stimulators reduce transplant shock and promote a greener, more vigorous plant.
Spending a few extra dollars in the beginning will go a long ways towards making a happy plant later.
The western sword is only one of thousands of perennials you will find at Johnson Brothers Greenhouses this year. Come on out and see one of the largest selections in the Willamette Valley.
Your greenhouses are still my favorite place to go after all these years. You have helped me fill out 2 acres of flowers, bushes and trees! Thanks Johnson Brothers. Jerri

What a joy to visit Johnson Brother's Gardens... better than a trip to the spa! We traveled over from Yachats for our favorites, then had to turn around and make a second trip back over for all of the pretties that we did not get on the first trip.
Thanks ladies, for getting that second truck load of plants into our CAR!! We are looking forward to our next visit. Michele
Our customers travel from all parts of Oregon to visit our Eugene location...
